SAP Tracker / Spoorsnyer Shield Patch — South African Police (Original)

A genuine, original and exceptionally rare SAP Tracker / Spoorsnyer unit shield patch from the South African Police Bush War era. Woven construction, dark green with a distinctive yellow/gold border. Centre features two large black bare footprints — the iconic symbol of the tracking unit. Text curved at top reads "SPOORSNYER" (Afrikaans for 'track cutter') and at bottom "TRACKER". Not a reproduction.

The SAP Tracker unit was one of the most elite and secretive specialist units of the Border War era, operating deep in the bush to follow and intercept SWAPO insurgent tracks across South West Africa (now Namibia). Their skill set was unique, their patches extraordinarily hard to find.

Following the end of apartheid and the political transformation of South Africa, the unit was disbanded and most insignia, uniforms, and unit items were destroyed or lost. Original Tracker patches are among the most sought-after pieces of South African law enforcement and military history. This is an original piece, not a replica.
